Just a regular reminder that if you like flying drones so much, especially for recreational purposes, please make sure you are doing so as far away from sensitive locations as you can.
Get it? Keep the drone far away from airports, parliament buildings, military installations… especially military installations.
Authorities get really antsy over that.
This follows events in Norway over the weekend, where a group of alleged tourists got themselves arrested for launching several drones near an army base belonging to the Norwegian Navy.
We are saying alleged because the Norwegian authorities are currently not buying the ‘tourist’ claims.
The incident took place near the Ramsund base, a key naval base and logistics hub for Norway’s fleet in the north of the country.
Reports from Norway claim that the group of six foreign tourists was behind the drone flights.
But – after reports in January that Russia had increased the number of spies along its border with Norway and was attempting to infiltrate fishing vessels that enter Norwegian ports by posing as fishermen and tourists – drones buzzing over sensitive places have the authorities worried.
All individuals involved were fined, and two drones were confiscated.
Local police are investigating the case. It is not yet known whether the group may be linked to Russian intelligence services.
Amid a rise in reported espionage cases involving suspected Russian intelligence activity and a general deterioration in the security environment in Scandinavia, Norway plans to double the number of military personnel in its northern region by 2032.
The area includes a 198-kilometer border with Russia, which has been steadily reinforced since November 2025, including through new physical barriers, surveillance systems and drones for aerial monitoring.
Once again, be very careful where you fly your recreational drone.
